Paver Patio Installation for Cincinnati’s Hillside Yards

A patio is the part of the yard you actually use. Dinner outside, a fire on a cool night, a place to sit that is not the driveway. We handle paver patio installation across Cincinnati’s west side from our shop in Sayler Park, including yards that start out anything but flat.

WHAT WE BUILD

What Can We Build in Your Backyard?

A patio, and the pieces that make it a place you want to be. We build in interlocking pavers, natural stone and stamped concrete, and we plan each project around the slope it sits on.

Paver Patios

Laid on a compacted base so the surface stays flat through Cincinnati winters. Sized for how you will use it, whether that is a table for eight or two chairs and a view.

Stepping stone walkway set into new sod along a fence line

Walkways and Steps

A path from the driveway to the door, or from the patio down to the rest of the yard. On a west-side lot, walkways and steps are how the levels connect.

Pergolas

A pergola gives a patio a ceiling. It marks the dining or seating area, adds shade in July and makes the space feel finished.

Fire Pits

Built into the patio, open or covered. A fire pit gives the space a center and stretches the season well into the cool months.

HOW WE BUILD

How Do We Build a Patio That Stays Flat?

A patio that sinks, heaves or grows weeds in every joint failed underneath, not on top. So that is where the work goes.

On a slope, the level spot comes first. Sometimes that is grading. Sometimes it is a short retaining wall that holds the hill back, with the patio built on the ground it creates. We quote both pieces together, so there is one price and one crew.

  1. DesignWe walk the yard, talk through how you will use the space and settle the layout and material before anything is dug.
  2. BaseWe excavate and build a compacted gravel base, graded so water runs off the patio and away from the house.
  3. SurfacePavers go down on a bedding layer, lock in with edge restraint and finish with joint sand that keeps the pattern tight.

WHERE WE WORK

Serving Cincinnati’s West Side

Our shop and yard sit on Gracely Drive in Sayler Park, so most of our work is a short drive rather than a highway trip. That is why we can get back out to a job the same week instead of the next month.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Paver Patio Installation in Cincinnati

How much does a paver patio cost on Cincinnati’s west side?

Most of our patio projects start around $3,000. Size sets the baseline, and three things move the number from there: how easily we can get equipment to the spot, how much grading the slope needs and the material you choose. We price every patio after walking the yard, and the quote is free.

How long does it take to build a patio?

About two days for an average paver patio. Larger patios, steps, a pergola, a fire pit or tight access add time. Your quote includes a schedule, so you know what the yard looks like on each day.

Should I choose pavers, natural stone or stamped concrete?

It comes down to the look you want and how the patio will be used. Interlocking pavers come in the widest range of shapes and colors. Natural stone looks like it has always been there. Stamped concrete gives one continuous surface with a pattern pressed in. We build all three and talk through the tradeoffs with you during the quote walk.

Can you build a patio on a sloped yard?

Yes. On most west-side lots that means creating a level spot first, either by grading or with a short wall that holds the slope back, then building the patio on it. The quote covers both pieces together.

Why do paver patios sink or grow weeds?

Almost always the base. Pavers laid on too little gravel, or straight onto soil, shift as the ground freezes and thaws. That opens the joints and lets weeds in. A compacted base, edge restraint and joint sand are what keep a patio flat and clean.

Can you add a pergola or fire pit to a patio?

Yes. We build pergolas and fire pits, open or covered, and they are easiest to plan with the patio so the layout and the base account for them. Either one can also be added to a patio you already have.
